I have spoken about this before, but let me address it again. Organic products can never and will never damage your skin. How can something truly natural, like shea butter, give you sunburn? That’s simply not possible.

When we say organic, we are talking about raw natural foods, plants, vegetables, and other things that come directly from nature. However, what many people call “organic” skincare today is not actually organic in the strict sense. Instead, these are naturally derived ingredients—compounds that originally came from organic sources but have gone through a process to make them usable in skincare.

For example:

Kojic acid is derived from mushrooms.

Licorice extract is obtained from the licorice root.

Salicylic acid was originally obtained from willow bark.

Glycolic acid comes from sugarcane.

Lactic acid can be sourced from milk.

Allantoin is found in comfrey root.

Once these ingredients pass through extraction or processing, they are no longer purely organic but are considered natural skincare actives.

If you want to stick to pure organic skincare, then focus on ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, honey, turmeric, neem, and similar raw, unrefined plant-based materials.

And to be clear: natural skincare does not bleach the skin. The only things that bleach or lighten unnaturally are harmful agents like steroids, mercury, hydroquinone, and other harsh chemicals. Natural and organic products work to nourish, protect, and heal your skin—not bleach it.

So next time you want to criticize “organic,” check the true meaning. Organic means straight from nature in its raw form. Natural skincare, on the other hand, often means it was derived from organic sources but has been processed into actives. Both are safe, but they are not the same thing.
