Bauchi ACReSAL Hands Over Plant Nursery at GGAC Alkaleri.
In continuation of the handing over of Plant Nurseries, Bauchi State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has today handed over plant nursery at the Government Girl's Arabic College,Alkaleri in Alkaleri local government area of the state.
In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir represented by project's Natural resource and Forestry, Nasiru Abdu Umar reaffirmed ACReSAL’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges through strategic afforestation interventions. He noted that the nurseries were designed to provide to communities in the LGAs with easy access to quality tree seedlings to support widespread afforestation efforts. These sites, he emphasized, will also serve as practical learning hubs for Agricultural Science and Biology students.
The Natural resource officer stressed the importance of site maintenance, outlining responsibilities such as regular watering, pruning, weeding, mulching, and protecting the nurseries from animals and vandals. He noted that sustained care of the nursery by both the host institution and local communities could unlock additional support from ACReSAL.
He encouraged the school leadership and the newly inaugurated Site Management Committees (SMC) to take full ownership of the project, highlighting both the earthly and spiritual rewards of tree planting. "This initiative combats soil erosion, desertification, flooding, and climate change," he said. "It also earns divine rewards and promotes sustainability."
During the handover ceremony, beneficiaries of the climate-smart agricultural were sensitised by the the Agric and climate change officer, Mahmud Bala Umar on climate-smart agricultural practices, where issues of immense importance with regard to the raising and maintenance of the nursery unit were also discussed
The Chairman, Alkaleri local government area, Hon Garba Hassan Bajama, represented by the council's Director of Agric, Abdullahi Haruna expressed gratitude with the intervention and called on the climate-smart agricultural practices beneficiaries to take good care of the plantation, saying this, will attract additional supports to the LGA.
The principal, GGAC Alkaleri Hajiya Hasiya Aliyu Dadi and Sarkin Alkaleri, represented by Abubakar Daska, Wamban Alkaleri pledged their support and commitment to the success of the initiatives. They expressed appreciation to ACReSAL for the intervention, describing it as timely and transformative.
The entourage also visited the palace of Sarkin Alkaleri, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Gidado where they briefed him on ACReSAL's overview and the number of executed projects and proposed interventions to the local government. The traditional leader expressed delights with the visit and commended SPMU team for their dedication to service delivery and emphasized on the need for on massive afforestation activities to address the lingering environmental challenges facing the state.

Bauchi Governor, ACReSAL Flag Off Over 29 Billion Naira Flood and Erosion Control Project
The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, has signed a contract worth N30 billion for flood and erosion control measures from Tsohon Kamfani to Gwallagan Mayaka in Bauchi metropolis.
The Governor performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the land stabilization and channelization project, describing it as one of the biggest infrastructure and environmental restoration projects in the state.
He stated that the project will not only address the persistent challenges of flooding and erosion but will also create both micro and macro-economic opportunities aimed at improving the wellbeing of the people of the state. According to him, the project is expected to restore over 9,000 hectares of degraded land, while more than 200,000 people are expected to benefit directly and indirectly.
In an opening remark, the hommissioner ministry of housing and environment Rt Hon Danlami Ahmed Kawule who is also the chairman state steering committee said ACReSAL is one priority projects of the current administration, detailing multi faceted naturr of the project that covers Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources sectors aimed at improving livelihoods and sustainable development.
Speaking during the event, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), Dr. Ibrahim Kabir said Governor Bala Mohammed is transforming lives and restoring livelihoods through the massive intervention project.
He explained that ACReSAL has continued to support Community Interest Groups (CIGs) with grinding machines, motorcycles, sewing machines, and solar-powered irrigation pumps, while also empowering women through waste management initiatives.Dr. Kabir described the Bauchi ACReSAL Project as one of the most impactful projects being implemented in Nigeria and in Bauchi State.
In a goodwill message, the National Project Coordinator ACReSAL, Abdulhamid Umar represented by Engr Onyedikachi Ugo said the project is designed to safeguard and improve livelihoods across Bauchi State. He commended the Governor for his commitment to the successful implementation of ACReSAL in the state and also applauded the State Project Management Unit and other stakeholders for their dedication to the project.
Engr Ugo also charged the contracting firm not to compromise on standards, quality, and timeline completion of the project and to also abide by all safety regulations guiding the project.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Triacta Nigeria Limited commended the Governor for his developmental strides across the state and wished him success in the completion of all ongoing projects.
The benefitting communities were encouraged to give maximum support and cooperation and took ownership of the towards the successful ex*****on of the project, where they extends their heartfelt delights for the project, commending Governor Bala Mohammed for providing solutions to the decades-long water flooding and soil erosion bedivelling their communities.
