Chapter 1: Fading Light.

I grasped Dad's frail hands, his trembling fingers intertwined with mine. Tubes and wires enveloped him, a constant beep monitoring his fading pulse. Tears brimmed in his sunken eyes.

"Daddy, don't go," I whispered, my voice cracking.

"My son," he struggled to speak, "I'm proud of the man you'll become. Your time isn't yet done, but mine is."

"No, Father!" I pleaded, desperation creeping in. "You can't leave me now. I need you."

A faint smile crossed his lips. "You're strong, my boy. Our family's legacy rests on your shoulders."

"Legacy?" I asked, confusion etched on my face.

"Baami your Grandfather passed the baton to me," he explained, "now it's my turn to pass it to you. Continue the race, son."

Tears streamed down my face. "But Father, I'm not ready. I still need your guidance."

His grip tightened. "Life's philosophy is simple: be resilient, love everyone, but don't trust everyone. Humans fail, but God doesn't. Never rely solely on people because that's what led to my untimely departure...and don't abhor bitterness. "

I clung to his hands. "Don't leave me, Father. Please."

With a gentle smile, he whispered, "My time is done. Yours has just begun."

Our eyes locked, and I saw peace settle within his. His chest rose once more, then stilled. His hands slipped from mine.

"Daddy! Daddy!" I cried out, my voice echoing through the hospital room, but he was gone.

In that moment, I understood. The baton was mine now. I wiped away tears, took a deep breath, and stood tall.

I will continue the race.

I will make him proud.

I will be strong

Mark: Ghana jollof or Nigerian jollof?

Cammie: I love Nigerian jollof, but I'll choose Ghana jollof; its spices aren't overwhelming.

Mark: Roasted chicken or fried chicken?

Cammie: Fried chicken!

Mark: Boiled egg or fried egg?

Cammie: Boiled egg is okay.

Mark: But what if the food gets burnt? Would you still eat it?

Cammie: No, I can't eat burnt food. It's not healthy.

Mark: That's true. You know, it reminds me of something I've been thinking about...

Cammie: (curious) Oh? What's that?

Mark: Well, just like fire can cook food, but also burn it, God's power can refine us, but also consume us if we're not careful.

Cammie: (pauses, taking a deep breath) That means God, the fire that refines, can also destroy.

Mark: (jokingly) Wow, Cammie can be this serious?

Cammie: (suspiciously) What do you mean? This is a serious matter.

Mark: (smiling) I know, I know. I was just preparing for that sermon I mentioned.

Cammie: (stands up, becoming serious) What about my Ghana jollof and fried chicken?

Mark: (laughs) You'll get it on Christmas Day! (runs away)

"Food is ready!" What a delightful phrase, especially when the irresistible aroma wafting from the kitchen tantalizes our senses! Our noses can't get enough of the scent, our tongues crave a taste, and our eyes long to behold the beautifully crafted dish, adorned with spices and meats.

But, let's not forget that before this culinary masterpiece is served, it undergoes a crucial process. Rushing through this process can compromise the final result. If the process is incomplete, it may lead to waste. However, when the process is complete, everyone will yearn for more!

Similarly, let's approach life with the same mindset. Enjoy the process, despite its challenges. Don't give up! For it's through this process that we become the admiration of nations.
