TODAY'S SERMON
WHO WILL DELIVER THE PEOPLE?
Text: Psalm 46:1-3; Isaiah 41:10; Romans 8:31
Introduction
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, I speak with a heavy heart.
Every day we wake up to disturbing news. We hear of innocent people kidnapped on the highways. We hear of communities attacked in the middle of the night. We hear of families mourning loved ones whose lives were cut short by violence.
Many people no longer travel freely. Farmers are afraid to go to their farms. Parents are anxious about their children. Business owners are uncertain about tomorrow.
The truth is that our nation is bleeding.
Tears are flowing in many homes. Fear has found its way into many hearts. And in the midst of all these challenges, people are asking painful questions:
Who will deliver the people?
Who will wipe away the tears of grieving mothers?
Who will rescue those living in fear?
Who will restore peace to our communities?
Who will save our nation?
These are not foolish questions. They are questions coming from wounded hearts.
But as children of God, we must remember that whenever human strength fails, God's power remains. When earthly systems disappoint us, Heaven is still in control. When darkness appears to be increasing, God is still seated on His throne.
Therefore, our answer today is clear:
The Lord Himself will deliver His people.
The Psalmist declares in Psalm 46:1:
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Notice that Scripture does not say God was our help. It does not even say He will be our help someday.
It says He is our help right now.
In the middle of our fears.
In the middle of our uncertainties.
In the middle of our national challenges.
God is still our present help.
1. GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN HIS PEOPLE
One of the greatest temptations during difficult times is to think that God has forgotten us.
Sometimes when prayers seem unanswered and challenges continue, people begin to ask:
"Where is God?"
But the Word of God answers that question clearly.
Isaiah 41:10 says:
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God."
God did not promise that His people would never face difficulties. What He promised is that He would be with them through those difficulties.
When Daniel entered the lions' den, God was there.
When the three Hebrew boys entered the fiery furnace, God was there.
When Paul and Silas sat in prison with chains on their hands and feet, God was there.
And brothers and sisters, God is still here today.
He sees every tear.
He hears every cry.
He knows every family that is hurting.
He has not abandoned His people.
The enemy may appear strong, but God remains stronger.
The darkness may seem deep, but the light of God is deeper still.
2. GOD IS STILL THE DELIVERER OF NATIONS
The Bible is full of stories of God's intervention when situations looked hopeless.
Think about Israel in Egypt.
For over four hundred years they suffered oppression. They cried. They groaned. They wondered when help would come.
Then God spoke in Exodus 3:7-8:
"I have surely seen the affliction of my people... and I am come down to deliver them."
What a beautiful statement!
God said, "I have seen."
God said, "I have heard."
God said, "I know."
God said, "I have come down."
And shortly afterward, Pharaoh's power was broken, the Red Sea opened, and God's people walked into freedom.
The lesson is simple:
God still sees.
God still hears.
God still remembers.
And God still acts.
The God who delivered Israel is still alive today.
The God who broke Pharaoh's power can break every force of violence, terror, wickedness, and bloodshed troubling our nation.
Nothing is impossible for Him.
3. WE MUST NOT ALLOW FEAR TO CONTROL OUR HEARTS
One of the greatest victories the enemy seeks is not merely to attack people physically but to imprison them emotionally.
Fear can become a prison.
Fear can steal joy.
Fear can weaken faith.
Fear can make us forget the promises of God.
That is why Scripture says in 2 Timothy 1:7:
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
As believers, we must refuse to allow fear to become our master.
Yes, we acknowledge the reality of our challenges.
Yes, we pray for protection and wisdom.
But we do not surrender our hearts to fear.
Our faith must always be greater than our fears.
Because no matter how big the problem appears, God remains bigger.
4. GOD'S PROMISES HAVE NOT CHANGED
One thing I love about God is that He never changes.
People change.
Leaders change.
Policies change.
Economies rise and fall.
But God's Word remains forever.
Numbers 23:19 reminds us:
"God is not a man, that he should lie."
If God says He will protect, He will protect.
If God says He will sustain, He will sustain.
If God says He will deliver, He will deliver.
Psalm 91 is still relevant today.
The promises that strengthened believers generations ago can still strengthen us now.
Our confidence is not built on what we see around us.
Our confidence is built on what God has spoken.
And God's Word can never fail.
5. THE CHURCH MUST RETURN TO THE ALTAR OF PRAYER
Throughout history, whenever God's people prayed, heaven responded.
When Peter was in prison, the church prayed.
When Jehoshaphat was surrounded by enemies, the nation prayed.
When Nineveh was facing judgment, the people prayed.
Prayer invites God's intervention into human situations.
This is why 2 Chronicles 7:14 says:
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray... then will I hear from heaven."
Church, this is not the time to give up.
This is not the time to lose hope.
This is not the time to become silent.
This is the time to pray more fervently.
We need praying churches.
We need praying families.
We need praying fathers and mothers.
We need praying young people.
When God's people pray, God moves.
6. GOD CAN TURN OUR MOURNING INTO JOY
The pain we see today is real.
But it is not permanent.
Psalm 30:5 declares:
"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
Every night has a morning.
Every storm has an end.
Every season of pain eventually gives way to a season of restoration.
The same God who restored Job after his suffering can restore our nation.
The same God who brought Israel out of bo***ge can bring peace to our land.
The same God who raised Jesus from the dead can breathe new life into our communities.
We serve a God who specializes in turning impossibilities into testimonies.
7. OUR HOPE IS IN JESUS CHRIST
At the end of the day, our greatest confidence is not in politicians, governments, security agencies, or human systems.
Our ultimate hope is in Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:31 asks:
"If God be for us, who can be against us?"
Jesus conquered sin.
Jesus conquered death.
Jesus conquered the grave.
And today He reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords.
No enemy is greater than Him.
No darkness can overpower Him.
No challenge can defeat Him.
Because Christ lives, there is hope for tomorrow.
Because Christ reigns, there is hope for our nation.
Because Christ is victorious, we too shall be victorious.
Conclusion
Beloved, the challenges before us are real, but our God is greater.
The nation may be bleeding, but God has not abandoned us.
The people may be afraid, but God is still our refuge.
The future may seem uncertain, but God's promises remain certain.
So when people ask,
"Who will deliver the people?"
Let our answer be loud and clear:
The Lord will deliver His people.
Therefore:
Hold on to God.
Hold on to His Word.
Hold on to your faith.
Hold on to prayer.
Hold on to hope.
The God who delivered yesterday will deliver again.
The God who rescued yesterday will rescue again.
The God who saved yesterday will save again.
And with faith in our hearts, let us declare together:
We shall overcome in Jesus' Name.
We shall see peace in our land in Jesus' Name.
We shall see restoration in our communities in Jesus' Name.
We shall witness God's mighty intervention in our nation in Jesus' Name.
And the people of God shall say:
AMEN!
