Presidency Moves to Resolve N2 Trillion GenCo Debt 03/06/2025

In a renewed effort to stabilise Nigeria’s power sector, the Presidency has commenced internal approval processes aimed at resolving the longstanding N2 trillion debt owed to electricity generation companies (GenCos). This move is expected to reach a resolution before the end of the next quarter.

The disclosure was made during the second Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Stakeholders Meeting of 2025, convened by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. The Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Energy confirmed that alternative debt instruments are under consideration, given prevailing fiscal constraints.

The Presidency acknowledged the urgency of addressing the legacy debt, which has placed significant financial strain on GenCos and negatively impacted electricity generation and supply across the country. Key fiscal authorities, including the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and the Debt Management Office, are reported to be aligned with the proposed financing strategy.

South Korea Elects New Leader After President’s Impeachment 03/06/2025

South Koreans headed to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new president in a snap election triggered by the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, following his imposition of martial law and the deployment of troops to parliament.

The controversial move, widely condemned at home and abroad, led to Yoon’s removal from office and has thrown the ruling conservative People Power Party into crisis.

Polling stations opened early, with high voter turnout expected. Over a third of registered voters had already cast their ballots during early voting. The election is being seen as a referendum on the conservative government’s leadership, particularly in light of recent events.

Liberal frontrunner Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party is leading in most opinion polls, significantly ahead of his conservative rival Kim Moon-soo.

Dangote Refinery Slashes Nigeria’s Petrol Price to 55% Below West African Average 02/06/2025

Nigeria’s domestic petrol price is currently 55% lower than the average across West African countries, largely due to local refining by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. You Had One Job...

There was once a water carrier who had two pots.
One was perfect. The other had a crack.
Every day, he’d walk to the stream, fill both pots, and return.
By the time he got home, the cracked pot had leaked half its water.
Ashamed of its flaw, the cracked pot apologized.
“I’m sorry for not being good enough,” it said.
The carrier smiled and replied,
“Have you noticed the flowers on your side of the path?
I planted seeds there, knowing your leak would water them.”
The cracked pot had unknowingly nurtured beauty all along.

The Gist
Even when you feel broken, your impact may be blooming in ways you don’t yet see.

This week, let’s not underestimate quiet efforts, hidden flaws, or slow progress.

They may be watering something beautiful.
