This is a drawing of my dear friend and partner, she means so much to me.
I dedicated a week to this, starting with a light emboss paper using H and B pencils for shading, then layering the hairstyle with charcoal and brush strokes to bring the clothing to life.
I love how it turned out, and I'm so proud of it!
Stay tuned, because I’ll be sharing some progress shots soon, so you can see how each layer came to life.
Stay tuned for that journey.

A client discovered me through my Google Business Profile and he commissioned me to create this particular pencil portrait masterpiece and what a journey it has been.

I began the 16x12 inches artwork early in May and, over the course of two weeks of great dedication, I completed the drawing on the 21st of May, 2025.

From the very first grid line drawing to the light sketch, to the final deep tones shading with brushes, every part of this artwork was an intentional step.

I paid particular attention to how the light falls across the cheek and the glasses with the aid of my pencil eraser, capturing both clarity and softness; the texture and pattern of the fabric called A*O in Yoruba language. Weaving in fine lines of the IRO on the shoulder; and gentle strokes on the folds, patterns, and movement on the GELE.

Each stroke for me is a story of creation, I had to use the charcoal with heavier pressure, and when to use little pressure.

Two weeks may feel long, but for me, it’s the time needed to build my craft and I enjoyed every moment of it.
You can trust that the finished drawing is the culmination of a gradual process, not a rushed job.

Thanks to Mr. Rotimi, the founder of ROD initiative for this opportunity and a big thank you to everyone who has encouraged my work, your support truly matters.

I’m excited for the next piece that will come my way and I will continue exploring what pencil, paper, and creative observation can achieve.

If you’d like to talk about a commission portrait, book illustration, comic, or animation work.
I’d love to connect and explore how we can bring your vision to form.

Bringing African Heritage to Life Through Illustration:

I'm happy to share my latest project, where I had the wonderful opportunity to design an African inspired character for my client.

Using Adobe Illustrator and emphasis on the characters pant, I draw out the traditional African patterns into the character’s pants, creating a unique blend of culture and creativity.

I wish I could tell you the name of the character but that's confidential.

What made this project even more special was my attention to detail, from the left is a reflection of light (highlights) on the brown pant, with a blend of yellow and brown on the belt buckle and the highlight of white representing feathers and some yellow highlights as reflections of light..

I’m so happy about how this character (masterpieces) would turn out to be.
I'm also grateful for the creative freedom, I was able to use an artist brush just to make the shadow and highlight in a marvelous way.

This journey reflects my passion for storytelling and my commitment to bringing meaningful ideas and inspiration to life.

I will keep on sharing my progress,
Stay tuned for more updates!
