*PETERSON OR NOTHING: WHY APC MUST NOT IGNORE THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE*

Barely twenty-four hours after our explosive Sunday sermon titled “When Good Men Run From Politics,” fate itself appears to have handed the good people of the Ika Federal Constituency a living example of the exact kind of leader we described.
And his name is Dr. Donald Peterson.
For years, Nigerians have complained bitterly about bad leadership. We scream about corruption. We lament incompetence. We curse politicians in beer parlours, churches, markets and social media spaces. Yet, whenever a credible, compassionate, prepared and people-oriented man rises to serve, politics suddenly becomes complicated.
Why?
That is the million-naira question confronting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika today.
Because if the APC is truly serious about winning the Ika Federal Constituency seat at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, then many political observers believe the answer is staring the party directly in the face: Dr. Donald Peterson.
Simple.
Direct.
Clear.
This is not even the season for unnecessary political grammar.
The man has done the work.
And the people know it.
Long before the current political conversations began, Dr. Peterson had already built an organic relationship with the grassroots through his widely celebrated D-Peterson Foundation. In a political environment where many leaders remember the masses only during election seasons, Peterson chose a different path: consistent intervention, human capital development and silent impact.
That is why his name resonates loudly across Ika nation today.
Not because of propaganda.
Not because of noise.
But because of evidence.
Across communities, families and youth groups, the testimonies are many. From educational support to empowerment programmes, humanitarian assistance, community interventions and youth development initiatives, the D-Peterson Foundation has become a household name associated with compassion, accessibility and hope.
And that is one major difference between popularity built on posters and popularity built on impact.
Dr. Donald Peterson belongs to the second category.
This is why many people insist that he is not just another aspirant in the race; he is the aspirant with the emotional connection of the people.
Politics is changing rapidly.
The era where politicians sit in Abuja or Asaba waiting for praise singers to manufacture popularity is fading gradually. The people are wiser now. They are watching. They are asking questions. They are observing who truly stood with them before election season arrived.
And in those conversations, Peterson’s name keeps surfacing repeatedly.
That is not accidental.
It is earned.
What makes the Peterson phenomenon even more interesting is that he represents the exact kind of “good man” society has been praying for to enter politics.
Educated.
Refined.
Accessible.
Compassionate.
Intelligent.
Experienced.
Civil.
Focused.
And deeply connected to the grassroots.
In a political climate where arrogance has become a leadership style, many people see humility in Peterson. In a season where empty noise dominates public discourse, many see preparation in him. In an environment where politics is often driven by bitterness and division, many see emotional intelligence and maturity in his approach.
This is why many APC faithful are becoming increasingly vocal: the party cannot afford to gamble with this opportunity.
Our findings across several political circles within the Ika Federal Constituency reveal one dominant sentiment; Dr. Donald Peterson is currently the most popular among the aspirants jostling for the ticket.
And popularity in politics is not a small asset.
Especially when it is backed by competence and grassroots acceptance.
Political analysts within the constituency have quietly warned that denying Peterson the APC ticket may create avoidable complications for the party ahead of the general election. Their argument is simple: when parties ignore strong grassroots candidates and impose unpopular options, elections become unnecessarily difficult.
The people want a candidate they can defend boldly in public.
A candidate with capacity.
A candidate with character.
A candidate with political appeal beyond party slogans.
Many believe Peterson fits that description comfortably.
And beyond popularity, there is another issue that keeps recurring in political discussions: preparedness.
By every measurable political standard, many observers insist that Dr. Donald Peterson appears among the most prepared and equipped aspirants in the race.
Preparation matters.
The House of Representatives is not a playground.
Nigeria is facing serious economic, social and developmental challenges. The people do not just need anybody occupying seats in Abuja; they need representatives who can think, negotiate, influence policies and attract development.
This is where Peterson’s exposure, intellectual depth, leadership experience and people-management abilities become major advantages.
The next election in Ika should not merely be about winning power.
It should be about sending capacity to Abuja.
And many believe Peterson embodies that capacity.
But beyond strategy and calculations, there is also a moral argument here.
If society keeps discouraging good men from politics, then society loses the moral right to complain when bad men dominate governance.
Dr. Donald Peterson represents the type of leadership many citizens claim they desire; humane leadership, responsive leadership and people-driven leadership.
So, this is the time for encouragement, not sabotage.
This is the time for unity, not bitterness.
This is the time for party leaders, stakeholders and faithful members of the APC to look beyond narrow interests and consider the bigger picture.
Politics should not only reward loyalty to structures; it should also reward loyalty to people.
And from all indications, the people are already speaking loudly.
The streets are talking.
The youths are watching.
The women are observing.
The elders are calculating.
And across these conversations, one name continues to dominate the political atmosphere with unusual momentum: Dr. Donald Peterson.
Perhaps this is one of those rare political moments where the party must listen carefully to the heartbeat of the people before making its final decision.
Because sometimes, elections are not won merely by party logos.
Sometimes, elections are won by credibility.
Sometimes, elections are won by emotional connection.
Sometimes, elections are won by goodwill accumulated over years of service.
And sometimes, just sometimes, the people already know their preferred candidate long before party primaries begin.
For many across Ika nation, that candidate appears to be Dr. Donald Peterson.
