Speaking in tounges is one of the gifts of the holy ghost, it's not something you emotionally do. Ask for the gift and He is willing to give it to you. Don't go through the back door instead come in through The Door who is Christ Himself.

TREAT GOD’S FAMILY RIGHT
If you are truly saved and you gather in the name of the Lord, do you understand the weight of that invitation? It means you’ve been given access to the King’s family. You may not be serious yet. You may even be troublesome. But you're in the midst of God's children—those He calls His own.
Yet many don't see it that way. They think they can dishonor God’s people and still claim to honor God. If you understood what it meant to be saved by the blood, you'd recognize the weight of standing next to a child of the King. You wouldn’t cheat them. You wouldn’t deceive them. You’d be careful, knowing that the Father is watching how you treat His sons and daughters.
Jesus said don’t look down on the little ones—why? Because their angels always see the face of the Father in heaven (Matthew 18:10). That means they’re not just anybody. They’re deeply connected. Some of you go out of your way to meet celebrities or influencers because they once shook hands with someone famous. Yet you ignore the child of God who may have been with the Father just yesterday.
Wise people treat the children of God with care. They stay close, hoping they’ll hear something—some truth, some wisdom—that dropped during their time with the Lord. Honour God’s family. Don’t just claim to know the Father and ignore His household.

Most times when we pray, we ask God for things we want him to do for us neglecting the things he has done for us.
Always take out time to thank God because he has always been faithful, so be greatful.
