NACOMYO Inaugurates Newly Completed Lagos Quran House with Commissioning Prayers

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Lagos State Chapter, has officially commenced activities at its newly completed Lagos Quran House following a special commissioning prayer held on Tuesday, 7th Ramadan 1447 AH (24 February 2026).

The spiritually significant ceremony took place at the facility located at 36, Jebba Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos, marking the fulfillment of a long-cherished vision to establish a dedicated center for Qur’anic education, Islamic development, and youth empowerment.

The commissioning session featured solemn supplications led by the NACOMYO Lagos Qur’an Coordinator, Imam Maruf Okusanya, alongside the State Mursheed, Ustaz Adewale Muhammad. The clerics offered prayers for Allah’s blessings upon the project, its benefactors, and the Muslim Ummah, while seeking divine guidance for the effective and sustainable use of the facility.

Dignitaries present at the event included Alhaja Muinat Alake Shopeyin, Alhaji Abdulfatai Olukoga, Alhaji Abdurafiu Ebiti, and members of the NACOMYO Elders Council led by Alhaji Murtadha Balogun, among other stakeholders. Their attendance highlighted the significance of the Quran House as both a spiritual and administrative milestone for the council.

In her remarks, Alhaja Shopeyin encouraged stakeholders to continue supporting NACOMYO’s mission financially and spiritually, noting that although the building has been completed, it is yet to be fully owned by the council.

The State Coordinator, Alhaji Isiaka Salami, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the elders, and all contributors who made the project possible. He reaffirmed the council’s renewed commitment to advancing Islamic knowledge and strengthening moral values among Muslim youths across Lagos State.

Also speaking, Alhaji Murtadha Balogun described the completion of the Quran House as a symbol of faith, perseverance, and collective sacrifice.

Alleged Genocide of Nigerian Christians: US Congressman Criticises FG Over Inaction

United States Congressman Bill Huizenga has publicly criticised the Federal Government of Nigeria for failing to sufficiently address the escalating attacks on Christian communities in the country. He described the continuing violence as edging toward a “slow-motion genocide” and urged the U.S. to impose targeted economic sanctions instead of deploying military intervention.

Speaking in Washington D.C., Huizenga highlighted testimony from survivors of attacks in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and North-West, who claimed they felt “very much targeted” because of their faith. He warned that Nigeria risked repeating tragedies such as those seen in Rwanda and South Sudan if decisive action was not taken.

While expressing shock at the recent remarks of former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a possible U.S. military intervention in Nigeria, Huizenga clarified that he does not advocate for foreign military action. Instead, he favours sanctions aimed at cutting off financial and logistical support to perpetrator groups.

He added:

> “They need to demonstrate what they are doing to protect not just Christians but all citizens. Their response has been, ‘There’s really not a problem.’ Well, I think there is.”
