Tuesday 13th April, 2021, the National Executive Committee, National Youth Development Project held its inauguration for the States and Zonal Coordinators of the project at the Banquet Hall of Sandralia Hotel in Abuja.
The event which was attended by the creme de la creme of the youth circle and dignitaries including, the President of ALGON, duly represented, representatives of the Members of the House of Representatives, several Obas, Ezes and several religious leaders.
One thing that unites most people all over the world, Nigerians inclusive, is football.
National Youth Development Project, NYDP, a sports-peacebuilding initiative, in partnership with All Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has organized a football tournament for youth all over the country to promote peace.
The tournament tagged "PEACE CUP" is targeted at young people to promote tolerance, citizenship, leadership skills, and to share ideas on income generating activities that would further empower the participants.
It is no longer news that young people are the most vulnerable to being drawn into violence, the recent ENDSARS protests and its concomitant destructions comes to mind.
There are deep-rooted prejudice and stereotypes that have been left unaddressed and have contributed immensely to the rising spate of youth restlessness in the country.
The PEACE CUP tournament will provide a platform for encouraging peaceful encounters, social interactions, building friendships, providing a shared sense of identity and belonging among the youth and within the community.
The program is not only focused on the physical benefits of sports or building a lasting relationship with each other but also on connecting participants to resources that can help them in creating employment opportunities.
