You all might be wondering the meaning of 1.5 ton AC or 2 ton AC !! Their weights aren’t in tons, so what does this ton describe about?

If we talk in Layman Terms, Let us suppose I have a room fitted with 1 Ton AC.

So this 1 ton AC will ideally give the same cooling effect as I can extract from 1 ton Ice.

If we convert it mathematically where we use the Latent Heat of Ice as parameter for conversion, then we come to know that 1 ton AC means it has 12000 BTU/hr heat extraction capacity , where

1 BTU : British Thermal Unit ( How much heat do you require to heat 1 pound water to 1 degree Fahrenheit)

So 1 Ton AC = 12000 BTU/hr.

Similarly,

1.5 Ton AC= 18000 BTU/hr . and

2 Ton AC = 24000 BTU/hr.

But these are not the terms we use to measure power on daily basis. The conversion in Watts need to be done.

So 1 Ton AC = ? Watts ???? …. (Thinking)

If we convert directly, then 1 Refrigeration Ton = 3516 Watts (appx.)

But that doesn’t mean that 1 Ton AC will consume this power because this depends on the Star Rating of AC (efficiency) .

But we can still calculate the power dissipated for our corresponding Star Ratings.(EER = Energy Effeciency Ratio)

If we divide the corresponding Ton power with corresponding EER Rating(Energy Coeffecient) , then we can get real Wattage of our AC. So it varies with Star Ratings
