Hi guys Welcome to Eye Class Tuesday.

On Today's topic, we shall be looking at myopia progression.

What is MYOPIA?
Myopia is inability to see images clearly at far. That is, when light rays surrounding objects are centered before the Retina instead of infront of the Retina.
Myopia can aswell be called short-sightedness

So on Today's topic proper, which is progressive myopia, who does it affect and what are the management requirements to stop myopia from progressing?

Many times, MYOPIA starts from children who're 6 to 7 years of age and continues to progress. Once your child's spectacle prescription increases to -1.00 DS in less than 18 months there is MYOPIA progression that needs to be stopped ✋️.

Management: Visit a good eye clinic, there are different options of management suitable for every child ranging from a special order lenses, to contact lenses to drugs.

Are you aware how many time you blink Can indicate if there is an underlying, undisclosed and undiagnosed problem in the brain?

On Today's topic, we're going to talk about Benign Essential Blepharospasm which means abnormal blinking.

When you blink,it makes the eyes clean and moist in other to prevent it from drying

(A)New born babies blinks about 2 times per minute.
(B)Teens and adults blink between 12 to 15 times per minute
(C)900 to 1,200 times per hr
(D)14,400 to 19,200 per day
(E)100,800 to 134,400 per week

(F)Between 5.2m to 7.1 million per Yr.

Excessive blinking is when you blink more than normal. for instance, blinking 20 to 25 times per minute .

Causes of excessive blinking:
(1) Allergies
(2) Dry Eyes
(3)Eye infections
(4) Refractive errors
(5) Anxiety
(6) A scratch on the Cornea (aka abrasion )
(7) Inward growth of lashes
(8) photophobia
(9)BLEPHAROSPASM

Benign Essential Blepharospasm (BIB) which is the topic of today, is rare neurological disorder affecting the brain and nerves that controls the movement of the eyelids. This condition starts with blinking constantly between 25 times and above per minute, then progresses to "dystonia" that is not being able to keep your eyes open and also a repetitive movement .

Treatment of Blepharospasm is surgery and Injection
Whilst Treatment for others mentioned above depends on the cause .

Note: Neurological problem has to do with the brain, nerves and spinal cord.
