This was Odumegwu Ojukwu campaigning for president in 2003. He couldn’t even win his local government. He lost all states in the southeastern Nigeria.
Of course, people would argue that the election was rigged. But that election showed Ojukwu didn’t have the popularity he thought he had… especially losing all local government areas in Igboland.
In fact, in Ebonyi state, Obasanjo won 94% while Ojukwu got only 2%.
It will be a good research to understand why ndi Igbo didn’t vote for someone who is central to our political history. I perfectly understand why northerners or southerners didn’t vote for him. But ndi Igbo?
Is it that we lost confidence in him? Or that ndi Igbo didn’t see him winning the whole country, so played a more nationalistic game? Or we didn’t consider him a worthy candidate?
Ojukwu vied for Senate, he lost. He tried presidency two times, he lost. And the losses were clear failure to mobilize voters NOT because of rigging.
Just wondering how people could adore someone and still not want him to lead.
Just thinking about MAZI NNAMDI KANU🤔🤔.
