Frosted vs. Unfrosted Cakes

A frosted cake stays moist and fresh longer than an unfrosted one. Ganache, frosting, and icing all act as a barrier to the air. Air will dry out a plain cake.
Frosted cakes keep moisture in, extending the dessert’s shelf life.
Depending on the ingredients in the icing, some adequately covered frosted cakes can be stored at room temperature. Be aware of perishable ingredients in the frosting. Frostings or fillings with dairy products should always be refrigerated.

while on the other hand, unfroested cake are just cake without any frosting make it loss its moisture quicker since there is no barrier to lock the moisture in.

Mainly, there are two main types of cake which are ; butter cake (also known as shortened cake) and foam cake. The difference between these two cakes are ; ingredients used to bake them.

Buter or shortened cake ;
•Often contain butter, margarine, or vegetable shortening
• texture : dense and moist cake
•example : American butter cake

Foam cake ;
• use large amount of egg
• texture : light, airy cake
• example: sponge cake
