Kek Sarang Semut/ Honeycomb Cake

This is my comfort food since I was young. Mom used to make it, not frequent but as and when. Yeah, do understand that we were not borne rich. Buying ingredients for cakes or cookies is luxury. That’s why my mom only bakes for Eid Fitr.

Though I love the taste, and the warmth feeling that it gave, I’d never ask mom to make it anytime my heart desire.

Now everything changed. I am blessed to be able to cook whatever and whenever. Last night I bake this honeycomb cake and childhood memories seem to rush back. One thing I realised, baking is not that difficult. One could substitute the ingredients with others; for example the homemade caramel, can be substitute with maple syrup! Duuhh!

And all this while, I have the means to make but too lazy to make the caramel!

Anyway, last night I put away my gadgets (I blame them for my laziness) and started baking.

Voila!

My dad who is already 96 years old enjoyed it so much and my daughter claims that it’s as good as my mom’s cake.

I glad that I decide to bake. It bring back memories.
