This recent circular serves as an important reminder to employers on the application of public holiday provisions under the Employment Act 1955 in conjunction with the 2026 Wesak Day and Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong holidays.

For employers whose weekly rest day falls on Sunday:

📌 Hari Wesak falls on 31 May 2026 (Sunday)
📌 Hari Keputeraan Yang di-Pertuan Agong falls on 1 June 2026 (Monday)

As such, employers operating on a Sunday rest day arrangement may need to observe:

• 1 June 2026 (Monday) – compulsory paid public holiday for Agong’s Birthday; and
• 2 June 2026 (Tuesday) – replacement paid public holiday for Wesak Day falling on Sunday. Applies to companies who observe Wesak Day as one of their public holidays.
