1. Ionic Bonds
- Definition : Formed when electrons are transferred from one atom to another.
- Occurs Between: Metals and non-metals.
- How It Works:
- The metal loses electrons and becomes a positively charged ion (cation).
- The non-metal gains electrons and becomes a negatively charged ion (anion).
- Opposite charges attract, forming a strong bond.
Example: Sodium chloride (NaCl)
- Na → Na⁺ + e⁻
- Cl + e⁻ → Cl⁻
- Na⁺ + Cl⁻ → NaCl
