In Neno District, the SP-GEAR project is conducting a Children's Corner 'Train the Trainers' (ToTs) programme with 33 participants (20 males and 13 females), including YONECO representatives from Chikwawa and Mulanje. The training is designed to strengthen the skills of trainers so they can effectively increase child participation in Children's Corners.
These corners, established in the 1990s as a response to the HIV and AIDS crisis, provide safe spaces for children aged 6–18 where communities step in to support vulnerable children when guardians and parents cannot. Over the years, they have become vital platforms for resilience, helping children return to normal routines through care, guidance, and peer support.
Currently, the training emphasizes both procedural and methodological approaches to ensure consistency and impact. Trainees are being equipped with participatory techniques that amplify children's voices, resilience-building methods that help them cope with challenges, and strategies to link Children's Corners with broader community structures.
