Hundreds of people from Senior Chief Kapoloma in Machinga are today expected to receive some maize flour at Nainunje Community Ground where Machinga District Council is launching a distribution exercise meant for those affected with hunger.

The exercise follows government announcement that through the Agricultural Commercialisation Project, it has procured about 23, 000 metric tonnes of maize flour through World Food Programme in response to the hunger situation, which has affected various communities in the country.

According to Machinga disaster risk management officer, Shepherd Jere, about 48, 669 households who were drawn through the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee, are expected to benefit from the exercise across the district.

Deputy director of preparedness in the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, Fedson Chikuse is presiding over the launch.
