Medellín, Colombia's second largest city after Bogotá, initiated its "green corridors" program in 2016 in response to concerns about air pollution and increasing heat. The program consists of over 30 green corridors, connecting newly greened road verges, vertical gardens, streams, parks, and nearby hills. Initially, the project involved planting around 120,000 individual plants and 12,500 trees on roads and in parks, with an additional 2.5 million smaller plants and 880,000 trees planted across the city.
