Like all works of art, carpets tell stories.

In Morocco, tapestries have been woven since the Paleolithic era (stone age). Nowadays many of the vintage carpets we find in the market, were woven by matriarchal figures from the various Berber tribes.

The carpets feature symbols of Tifinagh script, which is used to write the Berber languages. The symbols are used to depict elements of daily life, significant events, celebrations, commemorations and emotions. In some cases, the carpets were used as a form of letter writing between women.

The beauty of these carpets, lies in the emotions they convey. Even if we cannot completely comprehend the symbols, the character of the carpet tells it’s own story.

In this era (which could be marked as the Covid era), traditional storytellers in Morocco are moving to an online platform. Please follow to stay up to date with the innovative continuation of storytelling.

When I’m surrounded by colours & choices, it’s in those moments that I realize how much I love my job.

This year has been tough for us all. Small, independent, creative projects have been hit hard. We are inexplicably grateful to still be receiving creative commissions, especially when it enables us to re-ignite the creative energies which are currently bubbling under the surface of Marrakech.

A technique which has been mastered over centuries, Zellige Tiles are a trending example of traditional Moroccan workmanship.

Hand crafted with non-refined, natural clay from the region of Fes, these tiles have an organic charm to their finish. The clay is hand-moulded, sun dried & finally baked in a kiln with olive stones.

These tiles are available in a variety of earthy & muted tones, which further add to their rusticity.
