Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to ethical and professional conduct.

We are currently seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician to manage and operate the Pediatric Outpatient Laboratory.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for processing laboratory specimens and conducting diagnostic tests for children aged 0–6 years. While blood samples will be collected by phlebotomists, the Laboratory Technician will handle specimen processing, testing, quality control, and reporting to support accurate diagnosis and effective pediatric care.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Handling & Processing
Receive blood and other specimens (urine, stool, swabs) from phlebotomists
Verify specimen labeling, integrity, and suitability for testing
Prepare and process samples according to laboratory protocols
Laboratory Testing
Perform routine diagnostic tests (hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, rapid tests)
Operate, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment
Validate, record, and release test results for clinical use
Quality Assurance & Safety
Follow laboratory safety and infection prevention protocols
Maintain quality control and calibration of laboratory instruments
Ensure safe storage and disposal of biohazardous materials
Reporting & Documentation
Record and promptly report test results to pediatricians and physician assistants
Maintain accurate laboratory records and patient files
Assist in preparing laboratory statistics and pediatric service reports
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with the pediatric care team to support diagnosis and treatment
Provide technical guidance on laboratory procedures when required
Participate in pediatric outreach programs involving laboratory services
Family & Child Care
Communicate clearly with parents/guardians about laboratory procedures
Provide reassurance and guidance in a child-friendly manner
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
Valid certification/licensure as a Laboratory Technician
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in pediatric laboratory services (preferred)
Knowledge of common childhood diseases and related laboratory tests
Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills
Core Competencies
High level of precision and accuracy
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
Commitment to safety, hygiene, and quality standards
Child-centered and family-friendly approach
Basic computer skills for documentation
