IELTS Coaching Classes
Think before you commit!
Let’s talk about IELTS today. These days, there is a definite surge in the number of institutions offering IELTS training to prospective candidates. Let’s take a closer look to avoid possible pitfalls to clearly understand the dos and don’ts
Some schools offer courses lasting 3-4 months. IELTS is a type of exam that should not ideally take more than 4-6 weeks of preparation. The best method is to bring your level of preparedness to near perfection and book the test because the test must be done at the moment you reach the top, as thereafter things start to get lukewarm.
Therefore, logically speaking, a student who enrolls for a class that runs for 4 months probably has some questions about their standard of English already. If a student has a general standard of English at band 4 level, it is unrealistic to expect that he could reach a band score of 6 or 7 at IELTS just by doing past papers, because IELTS is designed to test the student more in-depth, which requires a broader understanding of the language.
Hence, the right way to go about it would be to upgrade the general standard of English of the student, as close as possible to the required IELTS band score, because there are no shortcuts or hacks that would get the candidate through. Therefore, if someone claims that he can do the impossible, he is either a fake or doesn’t know what he is talking about
When selecting a teacher, there are a few things to be taken into consideration. Think of a school that conducts IELTS training for a large number of students at once. What are the drawbacks? The standard of English may differ vastly from student to student. In this case, the instructor either will move fast with the better students while the others lag behind, or he will move too slow to accommodate everyone, which would not necessarily be very appealing to some students. Secondly, certain specific types of questions may be understood better by certain individuals, while others may have different strong points. The instructor will not be able to pay attention to different students' needs due to the large numbers. When dealing with writing assignments, the teacher will probably not be able to give individual feedback on their work to students.
Therefore, the best option would be to find a place where the instructor caters to a maximum of between 4-6 students at the most or someone who works with a single student exclusively which would be the best option.
So pick your choice wisely and save your time, money, and avoid heartbreak. Good Luck with your IELTS journey.
Why so many students fail IELTS?
Reason number one – Students register for the exam before they are fully prepared
Reason number two – They do not leave a decent time frame for preparation. Let me explain. You need to leave adequate time to practice what you learn from an instructor. I have had students coming to me with requests such as, “I want to do IELTS next week,” or “My agent said they want to process my visa in two weeks,” these are impossible requests to meet.
Let me be clear on one thing. You cannot get through IELTS by using hacks, or shortcuts. In short, you cannot cheat this test. There is a certain method that will equip you to provide what the examiners are looking for. Unless you work this strategy, even if you are a fluent English speaker, you may not get the desired score
Reason number three – Students confuse themselves by following bad advice. Go on you tube for example. You may easily find hundreds of people giving all kinds of different advice. “How I passed IELTS in one week,” or “Let me tell you how I got band 7 in two days.” Those student who follow these quick fixer ideas will eventually waste plenty of money, lose valuable and most productive time of their lives, and end up not getting where they want to be.
Therefore, whenever you look for an instructor, look for someone who is prepared to work with you only. That is why I never work with more than 4-6 students in a month. When you pay good hard earned money, make sure you get the value for what you spend. I am result-oriented and strive to be fair to all my students, because I am very sensitive to the needs of the student as well as I appreciate the hard work of the parents. The other positive is the class scheduling will be more flexible. An instructor who handles a class full of students will not be able to accommodate any special or emergency requests. The students will have much less personal attention of the instructor.

A common mistake by students is, signing up for the very next test date immediately after getting a poor IELTS score. This is a wrong way to improve on a low score. First step is to take time to understand what could have gone wrong. This is where a good tutor can be very helpful in analysing the flaws of the student and applying corrective measures. If this step is ignored, chances are that the student may once again end up with similar results more often than not. Money and time are valuable resources. Don't waste them!
