As we stand in solidarity with the families that have lost loved ones and with all those affected by this tragedy, we remember that unity and support are what get us through times of crisis. The situation is still unfolding, with authorities working tirelessly to uncover the cause and assist those affected.

We urge everybody to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts, take care of each other, and look after one another through these difficult times. Let us all hope for healing, peace, and safety for the people of Delhi and beyond.

🚗💔 Every Journey Should Protect Life, Not Take It

Today, we remember the many animals lost on our roads and commit to making Sri Lanka's highways safer for all living beings. 🛣️🐾

🐾 The Silent Crisis in Sri Lanka

Our island's rich biodiversity faces a hidden danger — roadkill. The statistics are upsetting:

📉 13 elephants killed in road accidents (2019–2023)
🦎 552 reptiles and amphibians killed on just 3km of road in 48 days
🐆 Endangered leopards, golden palm civets, and many other species lost

From tiny 🐸 frogs to our great 🐘 elephants, roadkill claims thousands of wild lives every year, many of which go unnoticed.

⚠️ Why This Matters

🐾 72 different species were found among roadkill victims in one study, including 19 species unique to Sri Lanka and 22 species at risk

🏞️ Roads cutting through national parks like Udawalawe, Yala, and Wilpattu have become deadly traps

🚨 Human lives are at risk too; elephant-vehicle collisions have caused injuries and fatalities

🌍 What's Being Done

Sri Lanka is taking steps to address this issue:

✅ 🐒 Rope canopy bridge in Sigiriya (2022) helps purple-faced langurs cross safely
✅ 🌞 Solar-powered Light Repel Systems deter elephants from roads by 82%
✅ 👥 Community monitoring by groups like Leopocon and SCAR
✅ 🚸 Warning signs and speed limits in wildlife zones

But we need more. These solutions require funding, enforcement, and most importantly — your awareness. 💡

🐘 A Nation's Silent Tragedy: The Ongoing Loss of Sri Lanka’s Elephants

Every day, Sri Lanka loses a piece of its heritage.

📉 With only ~7,500 elephants left, our majestic giants—once rulers of these forests—are being pushed toward extinction.

Despite their deep cultural, religious, and economic importance, the numbers are heartbreaking:
🔺 488 elephants died in 2023
⚠️ 13+ deaths already in June 2025,
➡️ 38% caused by illegal electrocution

These aren’t just statistics—these are lives.

Elephants are vital to our ecosystem, identity, and future. But ongoing habitat destruction, deforestation, illegal fencing, and human-elephant conflict continue to threaten their survival.

❗ At this rate, the question isn’t if we’ll lose them — it’s when.
