Access English Microscholarship Program - Sri Lanka

Dear alumnus of U.S. Department of State sponsored programs,

"World Change Starts With Education". English being the global language we cannot ignore rural underprivileged kids who are in dark without English literacy. They lack exposure to English as they are not from English speaking background. They need more familiar & appealing texts in English to start with it. So, it's our aim to kindle their interest in English by providing them a local flavor through translating Sri Lankan folk stories into simple English.

90% of local folk stories are unwritten & it's our responsibility too to preserve them for the future generation. We will educate Youths of the value of our cultural heritage as well as how to use them for a service. Youth volunteers will collect folk stories from villagers. We will train English teachers on Translation Methodology to continue this trend. Sustainability of the project will be taken care of through networking & sharing folk stories as e-books & audio books on the web even after the project grant period.
