Sri Lanka Cricket - Lanka Premier League 2020

Client: Showtown Ent | Sri Lanka Cricket
Visual beds : Chamara
Virtual setup: Chamal Showtown Entertainment

Showing the vibrant culture of Sri Lanka with a modern twist along the way was the key goal as this is the year we use technology more than ever .

Modeling assets to edits and renders were all done from scratch unless it’s important to showcase an element which symbolizes Sri Lanka.

Notes from the Visual Artist

Opening Act:

A not so traditional drum with shockwaves which includes diamonds in a cell pattern to say “you’re breaking the locks for freedom of an event” theme for Colombo was inspired by the night life of Colombo; the “masquerade” you’d find in a form of mandala is matched to the dance to show the “foreign influence in the city” or it could be interpreted as a devil which dances along. City Kandy is screaming out of “sesath” සෙසත් and City Dambulla is influenced by a peacock feather yet again the colors are matched considering the dancers and the vibrancy of their team logo, City Galle is bit skeptical yet influenced by a lotus “නෙලුම” and City Jaffna is inspired by the palm tree leaves “තල්” All the color schemes are matched considering the costumes and the city vibrants of their logos to showcase 05 different cities coming together as one in this game of cricket.

Closing Act:

A tele/digital “portal” which embeds screen within screens and cricket elements around which was inspired by a “medusa” and “dr.who portal” is used to interconnect the teams with the slogan in mind “win together” “එක්වී ජයගමු”, this tied up really well with ADK’s “holographic” entrance to the video, showcasing multiple colors which the logos have becomes the bed(s) color for each and finally a fire breathing lion - (yeah we’ve seen dragons way too much) to wrap up the whole act while breathing out the logos and turning off LEDs on stage highlighting and leaving the theme logo at the end

It’s the new trend or the “new normal” that the team had to do this all “virtual” due to pandemic, nevertheless team Showtown pulled it off in style and ‘twas nice collaboration for me as an growing visual artist.
