Today we celebrate the enduring bonds between Africa and the Caribbean Community, honoring our shared heritage, resilient spirit, and collective journey toward progress.

From the shores of the Caribbean to the vast landscapes of Africa, we are united by history, culture, and an unwavering commitment to cooperation. This day reminds us of the strength found in our diaspora connections and the power of South-South collaboration.

As we look toward the future, we celebrate partnerships in trade, education, cultural exchange, and sustainable development that benefit both regions. Together, we continue building bridges of understanding and opportunity.

When Medicine Becomes a Weapon

Medicine is meant to heal. However, history shows chilling moments when it was used for the opposite purpose: to harm, control, and even exterminate entire populations.

In N**i Germany, doctors orchestrated the so-called “Euthanasia Program,” killing the mentally ill and disabled, and carried out brutal human experiments on prisoners. Eugenics policies and forced sterilizations sought to erase bloodlines deemed “undesirable.”

In the United States, medical practices also crossed into genocidal territory. From distributing smallpox-infected blankets to Native tribes, to the forced sterilization of nearly a quarter of Native American women in the 1970s, medicine was weaponized against vulnerable communities.

These episodes remind us that medical authority, when aligned with state power and prejudice, can become a tool of systematic violence instead of healing.

👉 As we reflect, the lesson is clear: ethical vigilance in medicine and public health is not optional. It is essential.
