On the occasion of International Children’s Day and National Arbor Day (June 1, 2026), the KBF Foundation in the Lao PDR, led by Mr. Jang Dong-ik, Director, collaborated with the Children’s Hospital, led by Dr. Xayyavong BUATHONGTHIP, Director of the Children's Hospital. Together with representatives from the Ministry of Health and medical personnel, they organized a special International Children’s Day celebration to bring smiles, happiness, and hope to the children currently recovering and receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

A highlight of this year's event was welcoming the executive board and team from the headquarters in South Korea (KBF Korea), led by Doryun Sunim, CEO of the Jogye Order Social Welfare Foundation, and Deokun Sunim, Secretary-General. They traveled to participate in the event personally and presented gifts to the Lao children.

Doryun Sunim expressed: In Buddhism, children are viewed as the seeds of hope for this world. Even though they are currently going through a difficult time with illness, they possess a strong courage within their hearts. We want them to know they are not alone; across the sea, there are many Buddhists and supporters in South Korea sending sincere prayers for their quick recovery, always standing by their side without any borders.”

Dr. Xayyavong BUATHONGTHIP stated: International Children’s Day is a significant day that reflects the protection, promotion of children's rights, and the creation of a supportive environment. In addition to physical treatment, the Children’s Hospital prioritizes boosting the spirits and bringing smiles to the children. These creative activities and gift distributions are intended to deliver happiness and empower the children to stay strong in fighting their illnesses and recover quickly.”

During the event, oral and dental health education was provided, along with dance activities and games with prizes. Furthermore, special gifts were presented to pediatric cancer patients currently undergoing treatment and recovery at the hospital.

The celebration was filled with warmth and memorable moments, passing on love and care. It beautifully reflects the great cooperation between the KBF Foundation and the Children’s Hospital in jointly improving the quality of life and healthcare for Lao children, ensuring they have bright smiles and a beautiful future.

On April 8, 2026, we hosted a training session for parents of children with cancer, focusing on a vital topic: "Nutrition for Children with Cancer."
The session was led by: 👨‍⚕️ Dr. Viengdalay Nammavong 👩‍⚕️ Nurse Chuen Keomuenphon From the Hematology-Oncology Department, Children’s Hospital.
Why is nutrition so important? Patients undergoing chemotherapy often experience side effects that lead to a loss of appetite. When a child cannot eat enough to meet their body's needs, it leads to malnutrition, leaving them weak, easily fatigued, and with a weakened immune system. This makes them more susceptible to infections and less able to tolerate chemotherapy. Receiving "complete and appropriate" nutrition before, during, and after treatment is the key to keeping the body strong and ready to fight the disease to the fullest. 💪✨
Our experts covered: The meaning and importance of nutrition, the impact of malnutrition in cancer patients, and proper dietary choices. Additionally, the doctors emphasized specific foods to "avoid" due to potential risks to the children, such as:
• Unsanitary, undercooked, leftover, or stale foods, as well as grilled foods (charred/burnt).
• Street food, due to the high risk of contamination.
• Fermented or pickled foods.
• Deep-fried foods or those cooked with reused oil.
• Foods that are excessively sweet, salty, or spicy.
• Foods containing contaminants, chemicals, or artificial colorings.
• Thin-skinned fruits or those prone to pests (e.g., grapes, strawberries, longan, custard apples, longkong, etc.).
The atmosphere was warm and friendly, emphasizing the essential role of diet in pediatric cancer care. By sharing real-life case studies, the doctors made the information easy to understand, allowing parents to apply these tips to their daily lives immediately.
