We were delighted to visit Theoline L. McCoy Primary School yesterday to deliver a presentation on human rights to the students. The students were enthusiastic and enjoyed participating in discussions around this important topic – we enjoyed presenting to them and engaging in discussion with them and answering their questions on the subject. Thank you for having us, Theoline L. McCoy. It was a pleasure!
If you would like to take the opportunity to collaborate with the Human Rights Commission on educational opportunities, you can reach out to us to book a presentation by the HRC for your classroom, email [email protected] or call +1 (345) 244-3685.

On World Autism Awareness Day, the Cayman Islands Human Rights Commission stands in solidarity with persons on the autism spectrum and their families across the Cayman Islands.
Today, we celebrate neurodiversity, promote understanding, and reaffirm our commitment to dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all. Every individual has the right to be respected, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Let’s continue working together to build a more inclusive Cayman — where human rights are protected and everyone belongs. 💙

February 20th marks the World Day of Social Justice, a day to reflect on fairness, inclusion, and respect for everyone in our community.
In the Cayman Islands, social justice helps create a society where people feel valued, supported, and able to participate fully in everyday life. While we’ve made progress, challenges like inequality, discrimination, and access to opportunities still affect many.
Today, the Human Rights Commission highlights a few simple but important ideas:
-Everyone deserves to be treated with fairness and respect
-Opportunity should not depend on background, identity, or circumstance
-Inclusive communities are stronger communities
Each of us can play a part—by being kind, speaking up when something isn’t right, and helping build a Cayman where everyone has the chance to thrive.

The Human Rights Commission extends sincere thanks to the Director of Prisons, Mr. Greaves, for hosting a comprehensive tour of the Northward Prison facilities.
Members of the Commission and Secretariat staff greatly valued the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the prison system in the Cayman Islands. We appreciate the openness and engagement shown, which supports informed dialogue on human rights and correctional services.

January 26th marks National Heroes Day, an annual observance dedicated to honouring the individuals whose service, leadership, and sacrifice have shaped the Cayman Islands and strengthened our community.
Across generations, Cayman’s national heroes have contributed to the advancement of our society. Their commitment continues to inspire current and future generations to work toward a more inclusive and resilient Cayman Islands.
Many of our National Heroes championed the rights which are now enshrined in our Bill of Rights under the 2009 Constitution. We honour Hon. Ormond L. Panton, OBE who asserted his right to a fair trial in 1955, Hon. Sybil Grace Hylton MBE who advocated for children’s rights, Hon. Mary Evelyn Wood, Cert. Hon. who championed women’s rights, Hon. Roy Eddison McTaggart who helped bring free education to the Cayman Islands in 1921, and all of our heroes who dedicated their lives to building our nation.
On this day, the Human Rights Commission underscores the following principles:
• Every person has the potential to contribute meaningfully to our society
• Recognising our history helps guide our progress toward a more equitable future
• Honouring service means upholding the values of respect, fairness, and unity in our daily lives
Everyone has a role to play in preserving the legacy of our heroes by supporting one another, celebrating our shared heritage, and promoting the values that strengthen our community.
