It reports that vitamin E may prevent age-related eye disorders such as macular degeneration, especially when combined with vitamin C, beta carotene and zinc. In addition, vitamin E may lower your risk of death due to heart disease, according to a 12-year study of more than 39,000 women published in "Journal of the American Medical Association." The study found that those who consumed 600 IU of vitamin E every other day had a 24 percent lower incidence of death due to heart attack than the placebo group.
