It’s Volunteer Monday! Today we are excited to introduce you to Nyahla Maccabbee! Nyahla is a student at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and is currently participating Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine’s Summer Internship Program for which she has been placed with the SKSTMN.
SKSTMN: How did you become involved with the SKSTMN?
Nyahla: One on my first encounters with the SKSTMN was when I attended their annual Sea Turtle Camp in 2016. This helped shaped my decision of choosing the career path that I'm now pursuing. I am also working with Dr. Stewart as an Intern for the summer.
SKSTMN: What is your favorite species of sea turtle?
Nyahla: I don't really have a favorite, but leatherbacks really interest me. They are huge and also distinctly different and unique from the other species in my opinion.
SKSTMN: What are some of your hobbies, favorite things to do on the island?
Nyahla: I enjoy reading, taking walks, exploring new things or old ones (mills and sugar plantations), swimming, writing, and creating art.
SKSTMN: Anything else you want to tell us?
Nyahla: I want to become a marine biologist, and I feel like I'm already taking steps in the right direction with this internship.
