💧🏙️ Sustainable cities start with safe water and sanitation.
At a special event at , UN-Water launched the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 Synthesis Report on Water and Sanitation 2026, highlighting global progress, persistent challenges and the urgent actions needed to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The fifth edition of the SDG 6 country acceleration case studies, presented at the event, showcases experiences from China, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Uzbekistan. These examples demonstrate how innovation, policy reform and national leadership are expanding access to safe water and sanitation for people and communities.
SDG 6 and are closely interconnected. Reliable water and sanitation services are essential for inclusive, healthy and resilient cities. They improve public health, strengthen climate resilience, reduce inequalities and support adequate housing. Through these imterconnections we see how progress on one Sustainable Development Goal can accelerate progress across the entire 2030 Agenda.

The most successful housing strategies don't focus on building homes alone.
They look at the entire ecosystem and create the right conditions for housing to be delivered at scale.
That means planning for affordable land, creating diverse housing options, investing in infrastructure, strengthening rental markets, mobilizing innovative finance, and working alongside communities rather than displacing them.
National Urban Policies also play a critical role by aligning housing, land and infrastructure with long-term urban development goals.
Ending the housing crisis will require collaboration across governments, communities, the private sector and financial institutions - but the good news is that *solutions already exist*.
The challenge now is scaling them.
