967 youths have benefited with empowerment kits to start their careers from the county government of Machakos during their graduation which was held today at the governor's office, this being the first cohort of the Machakos Youth Sevice.

Speaking during this event governor Wavinya Ndeti has said that this is one of the fulfilment of the promises she gave to the residents during the campaign period. " During my pre - election campaign I pledged to put in place policies that favour the transformation of our communities and through empowering of our youth who are not only endowed with talents and energy but also who face challenges of unemployment and lack of opportunities. Today I am proud by the progressive idea that I pre conceived has yielded fruits because I believe that empowered youth is the foundation of a prosperous county and nation." She said.

This is an event which was attended by Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka among other leaders.

‎Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti today led the County’s celebrations to mark International Co-operatives Day (Ushirika Day) 2025, held under the global theme “Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.”

‎Addressing co-operative societies and SACCOs drawn from across the county, the Governor acknowledged the vital role of co-operatives in transforming lives,not only in agriculture, but also in trade, services, transport, and other sectors. She noted that these member-owned institutions continue to drive financial inclusion, shared prosperity, and grassroots development.

‎Machakos County currently boasts 393 registered co-operative societies with over 259,000 members, an annual turnover of KSh 3.5 billion, and a cumulative share capital and asset base of KSh 13.7 billion. These figures, the Governor said, reflect the strength and resilience of the movement and its contribution to economic growth.

‎Several outstanding SACCOs were recognized and awarded for their exemplary performance, innovation, and impact in advancing co-operative values.

‎The Governor commended their efforts in empowering communities and pledged her administration’s continued support for co-operatives as engines for inclusive growth, youth and women empowerment, and sustainable economic transformation across all wards.

"In Machakos County, construction of 15 markets is in various stages. This includes the Machakos Town Modern Market that will be constructed at a cost of 450 million shillings and Matuu Market that will cost 350 million shillings." Deputy President,Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
