Stop Mixing It Up: A Civil Case Is NOT a Criminal Case

Every day, people say things like:
“She owes me money, I’m taking her to police!”
“He broke our agreement, let him face criminal case!”
But that’s not how the law works.

A civil case is simply a disagreement between two people or organizations. It is about rights, money, agreements, properties, contracts, and compensation.

A criminal case is about an offence against the State something considered a threat to society.
It comes with punishment, not compensation.

Here’s the difference in simple terms

In a Civil Case:

🥢 You sue, not arrest.
🥢 You want compensation, not punishment.
🥢 You go to court, not police.
🥢 The issue is personal rights, not crime.

Whereas in a Criminal Case:

🥢 The State takes over.
🥢 It becomes “The Government vs The Accused.”
🥢 The aim is punishment, not repayment.
🥢 Police and prosecutors handle it.

So if someone owes you money, breaks a contract, or refuses to deliver what you paid for it is NOT a criminal case. It is a civil matter, and the police cannot force the person to pay you.

Understanding this difference saves you stress, embarrassment, and wasted time.
Not every problem is a crime. Some are simply disputes and the law handles both differently.
