This world is truly unfair. You work so hard in school, always top of your class, teachers praising you like you’re the next Einstein. Primary school-number one in KCPE. Secondary-A plain in KCSE. Campus-you graduate with honors.
Then after all that brilliance, you find yourself back in the village… and if you’re lucky, you start life in a single room in Kawangware.
Fast-forward to CBD: you, with your brown envelope full of photocopied CVs, bump into that boy yes, the one who used to be last in class driving a brand-new Range Rover worth Ksh 43 million, with bodyguards opening doors for him.
Meanwhile you, the former number one, the pride of the school, the future of the nation… the most expensive thing you own is a lipa mdogo mdogo XTG phone.
And the only thing you can do when you see that “number last” the one who was branded a useless, futureless human being is hide behind a kiosk and peep from a distance, trying to confirm whether it’s really him or if you’re hallucinating from hunger.
Kwani machopi tulikosea Mungu wapi? Ama nyota ilizimwa bila sisi kujua?
