We concluded the 6th annual Womenโs Leadership Summit in Isiolo last night with moments of celebration, reflection, song, dance, and shared stories โ a powerful close to two days dedicated to amplifying womenโs voices and leadership in conservation.
Throughout the day, women leaders continued to share inspiring personal journeys of resilience, courage, and determination โ reflecting on the barriers they have overcome, the lessons they have learned, and the paths they are continuing to forge within their communities.
The conversations also featured strong calls for greater inclusion of women in leadership and decision-making spaces, alongside reflections on the importance of mentorship, financial empowerment, and creating opportunities for future generations of young women to grow into leadership.
A special session led by a medical expert created space for conversations around womenโs health, wellbeing, nutrition, and personal care โ reinforcing the importance of supporting women holistically as leaders within their homes, workplaces, and communities.
Women leaders from participating Northern Kenya Rangelands Carbon Project (NKRCP) conservancies also shared their experiences in community stewardship, while helping unpack key topics around community land governance, conservation financing, and how carbon projects can create long-term benefits for communities when grounded in transparency, participation, and shared understanding.
As the summit came to a close, one message stood out clearly: women want their voices, experiences, and stories to be heard more widely โ not only to inspire one another, but to help shape a more inclusive future for conservation and community leadership across the landscapes they call home.
We are grateful to all partners, facilitators, and women leaders who made this yearโs summit possible, and we look forward to continuing to grow spaces where women can lead, learn, mentor, and inspire.
