‎Palestinians broke into wild celebrations today after news of the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan that is ultimately intended to lead to an end to the two-year war in Gaza.

‎In the Strip men applauded in the devastated streets, even as Israeli strikes continued in some parts of the enclave. People in the enclave wept and chanted, “Allahu Akbar” voicing hopes that the deal would end the war and let them return to their homes. Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq said in a statement that “the ceasefire is the fruit of the tremendous sacrifices and the legendary patience of our people, as well as the strength and steadfastness of the resistance.”

‎The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group appeared to welcome the deal, going so far as to acknowledge the US and Arab mediation involved: “What was achieved in the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal is not a gift from anyone, yet we do not deny the Arab and international efforts,” the group said in a statement. The statement emphasized the tremendous sacrifices made by the Palestinian people and rejected the idea that the agreement involves any capitulation.

🚨Former Isiolo North MP Charfano Mokku Survives an Attempt On His Life

Isiolo, Kenya| This evening, the residence of Charfano Mokku, the former long-serving Member of Parliament for Isiolo North, came under attack by suspected armed assailants.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that between four and six heavily armed men, dressed in full police jungle uniform and carrying AK-47 rifles, attempted to gain entry into the compound.

When denied access at the main gate, the attackers scaled the perimeter fence and discharged several rounds of ammunition, some of which struck the roof of the residence.

The incident comes in the wake of highly reliable intelligence reports, received about three weeks ago, indicating that an elaborate plan had been hatched to assassinate the leader.

Although no casualties were recorded in the latest attack, the attempt has heightened fears and raised serious concerns over the safety of political leaders, as well as the deteriorating state of security in the county.

Authorities have arrived on the scene and investigations are expected to commence immediately to establish the identities of the attackers, their sponsors, and their motive.
