This refined 22 Kt gold revolving ring features an authentic Roman jasper intaglio dating to the 1st–2nd century A.D., engraved with the armed Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, the divine twin protectors of soldiers, travellers, and sailors.

Born of Leda, Queen of Sparta, the twins embodied the union of mortal and divine nature: Pollux, son of Zeus, was immortal, while Castor, son of King Tyndareus, remained mortal. Together, they became one of the most enduring symbols of brotherhood, loyalty, courage, and self-sacrifice in the Roman world ⚔️✨

Depicted side by side in military attire, the Dioscuri stand as guardians and saviours, revered throughout the Roman Empire for their divine protection in battle and during perilous journeys. Their inseparable bond made them powerful emblems of mutual devotion and virtus, values deeply admired by Roman society 🛡️🏛️

The small satchels visible in the composition may allude to their role as protectors of wayfarers and sailors, reinforcing their image as benevolent guides and celestial guardians. This iconic motif was widely represented on Roman engraved gems and signet rings between the 1st century B.C. and the 2nd century A.D., reflecting the lasting popularity of their cult throughout the Empire.
