People often ask 'when is the best time to visit Florence?' it's in its name 'city of flowers', Flora, spring!

WOMEN IN ART AT THE UFFIZI :

The recent exibit opened at the Uffizi 'Florence and Europe in the 1700's' . A multi faceted century with a great deal of attention given also to women in the arts as they started to travel during the Grand Tour becoming the protagonists of a new cultural season.

Portraiture in the 18th century opened up  to the depiction of new key players in bourgeoise society. Female portraits were part of this variety. Artists began to portray themselves with compositional freedom alternating stiffer and official images with more original and spontaneous depictions focusing on their uniqueness and their creative genius.
