The emergency stabilisation of the great iwan vault of the Sassanian palace of Ctesiphon (Iraq), built 1,480 years ago and the largest brick arch ever constructed, is on the point of completion. This great building is almost exactly contemporary with Haghia Sophia in Istanbul. The project is funded by a grant from the ALIPH Foundation to the University of Pennsylvania. Now we have access to the top of the vault, we have started preparing the draft conservation plan.
