Mr. Javaid Humayun Bakhshi, Mission Director, J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission, today visited Budgam, Block Khansahib and reviewed poverty alleviation programme Umeed. The Umeed scheme is aimed to provide better livelihood facilities to the women particularly in rural areas by showing them a sustainable path to capital.
Mr. Bakshi addressing the gathering said that the Umeed scheme has already brought great hope for poor women not only to come out of poverty but also raise their status within the communities. The Umeed scheme is extensively based on capacity building and strengthening of community based institutions by federating women at different levels. He said the Government is committed for bringing changes in the economic stability in rural areas and praised the perseverance of women and their role in nation building. Mr. Bakshi praised the SHG members whom have accessed over Rs 20 crores and have invested for enhancement of their incomes.
Mr. Bakshi was informed that there are 1,100 Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Khansahib block having 11,100 members who are able to improve and generate income through these groups. These groups have their own thrift of Rs 2.44 crore, while as capitalization through the department is Rs 6.52 crore and Bank linkage is Rs 10.71 crore. There are 13 Automatic Milk Collection Centers (AMCC) in Khansahib block, while as milk production stands at 950 litres per day. There are 26 AMC Operators working in the block. This scheme has been able to accommodate lot of youth especially female folk to provide them livelihood.
Mr. Humayun was accompanied by Additional Mission Director – Kashmir, Mr Ishfaq Ahmed beside other senior officials from the department.
