Cachapa, a traditional Venezuelan dish made from corn is an integral part of Venezuela’s culinary history originating in pre- Colombian times. Earlier, the indigenous population would grind corn with stone pestles and then cook it cachapa-style on clay budares, flat griddle plates. Corn was believed to be of divine origin, a gift of the Gods.
Now, a popular street food of Venezuela, cachapa is a thick pancake served with a slab of white cheese called “queso de mano” (hand made cheese), a pork chop and some chicarron, (fried pork rinds). It is best enjoyed with a cold Polarcita (beer).

Beetroot chips!!

Loaded with minerals, vitamins and fiber, plus very low in calories, they are said to be great for digestion, lowering blood pressure, and enhancing your capacity to exercise!!

Plus these are baked not fried, hence un-beet-ably healthy too!

With all these benefits, I am definitely rooting for this snack, how about you??

After the scorching summer heat, the arrival of monsoon is something we all look forward to!
The earthy smell of the first rain drops falling on the ground, is something I love and with it come pangs of longing for that hot cup of tea with a dash of ginger and something hot and spicy to munch alongside!
Since the monsoon has already arrived in South India, let's begin the series with 'Aloo bondas' ( deep fried spicy potato balls), also known as 'Mysore bonda', a common street food in South India!
Bonda is a popular street snack, somewhat similar to the batata Vada of Maharashtra!
Boiled and mashed potatoes are mixed with various spices, shaped into round balls, dipped in a batter of chickpea flour and deep-fried to a golden brown colour. They are crispy on the outside and soft inside and are generally served with a coconut or coriander chutney and is a favorite tea time snack at tiffin centers in South India.
The spices used in batata Vada and aloo bondas are a bit different and so is the shape. Bondas are round balls while the Vada are slightly flat.
Let me know which of these you like the most!
