LACHIT-1 Satellite Fails to Reach Intended Orbit After PSLV-C62 Anomaly
Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has confirmed that its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle mission PSLV-C62 encountered a flight anomaly during the final phase of the third stage, affecting the orbital insertion of onboard satellites, including LACHIT-1.
According to ISRO, the rocket deviated from its planned trajectory at the end of the PS3 (third stage) burn, preventing the satellites from being placed into their target orbits. Due to this deviation, LACHIT-1 is believed to have failed to achieve a usable orbit, though ISRO has not yet officially confirmed the final operational status of the satellite.
ISRO stated that a detailed analysis of flight data is currently underway, and the space agency will release its findings once the investigation is complete. The status of LACHIT-1 and other payloads remains under review.
The PSLV, often described as ISRO’s workhorse launch vehicle, has played a key role in several landmark missions such as Chandrayaan-1, the Mars Orbiter Mission, and Aditya-L1, and is known for its high success rate. However, this incident follows the PSLV-C61 mission in 2025, which also faced a third-stage failure.
Despite the setback, ISRO has indicated that future missions planned for 2026 remain unaffected, with more PSLV launches and other major projects still on schedule.
