One of the most challenging decisions for a pilot in any airplane is to first make a decision to pe*****te weather by climbing/Descending or track deviating or a combination of these options. It becomes more critical when technology prompts a possible option to your decision process that is reliant on knowledge and past experience of weather. And when you weigh the various other options of returning back or diverting to another aerodrome against the possibility that you can successfully pe*****te and get your passengers to their destination it is a dynamic two man crew decision. Remember, when weather starts to go sour it is not just ahead of you but all around so even a return or diversion option could rapidly be closing down. Like many pilots I have encountered serious bad weather and it was without even 5% of the technology now available. These were in military jets and small training aeroplanes. I can only say that it is very trying to choose an option once you are among those dark giant clouds. And worse still were the times that I had to decide to send trainee or junior pilots to fly in conditions that I could go sour but didn't. The wait for them to return has no words to describe. Be careful of weather even like the fog in northern India these days. The minimas do not cater for your capabilities on THAT DAY. Know what you can and should not do. Happy Landings and an apology to all those that I ever sent into poor weather conditions. You came back and WE won. Thanks.

Every news channel trying to out do other channels makes little sense by flashing BREAKING NEWS every thirty minutes soon forcing it into a mystery situation. Unfortunately No mishaps get publicised as much as air mishaps. The professional and moral responsibility of Aviation Authorities, Regulators and Air lines involved in such accidents includes making a statement that should be clearly defined as a SOP and the MEDIA needs to stop asking questions and making statements like these that
a) There was no emergency call from the aircraft - So what could have happened. - Makes everyone think of the most bizarre
b) The aircraft had on board weather radar that could give warnings of thunder storms for 150 nautical miles.- So how could the pilots go into the storm. -Makes everyone wonder what kind of pilots.
c) Every crew gets weather briefing before a flight - Makes little of weather forecasts as well the pilots.
The media states everything they get to know from God knows what source or worse they have some "Aviation Analysts" that start talking of their versions of What if scenarios.
I think we all know what the problem is. Mass communication and public opinion that is exploited by the media.
