Disturbing Animals After Lawful Import May Result In Cruelty: Supreme Court Rejects Plea Against Vantara
The Supreme Court has refused to entertain a PIL challenging the import and relocation of exotic animals to Vantara, observing there was no evidence of illegality in the import process. The bench noted that once animals have been lawfully imported, any disturbance or forced relocation could itself amount to cruelty, and courts must avoid issuing directions that may harm animal welfare. The petitioner alleged irregularities in permissions, but the Court found such claims unsupported and emphasised that investigative agencies had already examined the matter.
