The Bar Association staged a protest following the arrest of Advocate Ranjodh Singh. According to the protesters, Advocate Ranjodh Singh had raised allegations regarding the appointment of certain individuals under the "Outstanding Sportsperson" category in the J&K Sports Council and had attempted to expose the alleged irregularities.
After an FIR was registered against him, police officers reportedly arrived at the Jammu wing of the High Court from Kashmir and attempted to arrest him within the court premises. The move was strongly opposed by members of the legal fraternity, who protested the attempted arrest inside the court complex and expressed concern over the manner in which the action was carried out.

Three Major Questions Raised Over Outstanding Sportsperson Recruitment in Jammu & Kashmir; Athletes Demand CBI Investigation
A group of athletes and aspirants in Jammu & Kashmir has raised serious concerns regarding recruitment under the Outstanding Sportsperson category, demanding an impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The protesters allege irregularities relating to the recognition of sports associations, the eligibility of medals, and the inclusion of certain sports in the recruitment process.
According to the protesting athletes, they recently staged a demonstration and burned an effigy as a symbolic protest against the authorities. They also claim that some protesters were detained by the police following the demonstration. These claims have not been independently verified.
The protesters have raised the following three key questions:
First Question – Eligibility of Pencak Silat Medals
The protesters argue that if the Pencak Silat Association in Jammu & Kashmir was recognized on 1 January 2019, and the national federation received recognition on 3 January 2018, while the relevant 2018 championship was held in Srinagar, then on what legal or administrative basis were medals earned before the sport's inclusion considered eligible for recruitment under the Outstanding Sportsperson category introduced through the 2022 SRO? They are seeking an official explanation regarding the eligibility of such medals.
Second Question – Inclusion of Taekwondo Medal Winners
The protesters further contend that the national governing body for Taekwondo faced recognition-related disputes beginning in 2015 and that the matter has been the subject of court proceedings. They question how athletes who won Taekwondo medals during the disputed period were included in the Outstanding Sportsperson list. They have called for an independent inquiry to determine whether the inclusion complied with the applicable rules and regulations.
Third Question – Canoeing, Kayaking and Dragon Boat
The protesters also allege irregularities concerning Canoeing, Kayaking, and Dragon Boat. They claim that attempts were made to merge separate disciplines despite them being internationally recognized as distinct sports. They further allege that, after 2014, several medals were awarded despite the absence of a properly recognized association, qualified coaches, or certified referees. They have questioned the authenticity of these medals and the process through which they were recognized for recruitment purposes.
The protesting athletes have demanded a comprehensive CBI investigation into the entire Outstanding Sportsperson recruitment process. They allege that if any irregularities occurred in the recognition of sports associations, the award of medals, or the utilization of public funds, those responsible should be identified and held accountable in accordance with the law.
At present, the concerned government departments and the organizations referred to in these allegations have not publicly responded to the claims. Their response should also be included whenever available to ensure fair, balanced, and objective reporting.

People must know their rights.
Under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Services Guarantee Act, 2011, citizens are entitled to receive notified public services within the prescribed time. However, there are concerns that in several departments, designated officers or Public Information Officers have not been identified or notified, making it difficult for citizens to obtain services and information under the Act.
We appeal to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to consider introducing suitable amendments or a Bill in the next Assembly session to ensure that every department designates the required officers under the Public Services Guarantee Act and that clear accountability and penalties are provided for officials who fail to comply with their legal obligations or engage in misconduct, in accordance with the law.

Is the Outstanding Sportsperson issue being diverted?
Serious questions continue to be raised over the alleged irregularities in the Outstanding Sportsperson selection process in Jammu & Kashmir.
Critics allege that instead of ensuring a transparent and independent probe into these allegations, political attention is being diverted towards other controversies, including allegations relating to outsourcing and earlier issues involving JK Bank and outsourcing of 25000 Job. They argue that such debates risk overshadowing the demand for accountability in the Outstanding Sportsperson matter.
The real question remains: Will there be a fair, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the Outstanding Sportsperson allegations, or will the issue continue to be overshadowed by political narratives?
The people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve transparency, accountability, and answers based on evidence—not distractions.
