AIP Welcomes ₹1,400 Crore JJM-II Release, Credits MP Er. Rashid's Efforts
Srinagar, July 5 (KNS): Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Sunday welcomed the Union Government's decision to release the first installment of ₹1,400 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM-II) for Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a significant step towards expediting drinking water projects in rural and remote areas.
In a statement issued here, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said the release of funds vindicates the consistent efforts of Baramulla Member of Parliament Er. Rashid, who, despite being lodged in Tihar Jail, persistently pursued the issue through official communications with the Union Minister for Jal Shakti and raised it during the previous Parliament session after securing custody parole.
He said Er. Rashid had repeatedly urged the Union Government to clear the long-pending JJM dues and ensure the timely release of funds for Jammu and Kashmir, maintaining that access to safe drinking water is a basic right and that financial constraints under the mission were adversely affecting thousands of households across the Union Territory.
"The release of these funds is a welcome step and reflects the importance of sustained parliamentary intervention on issues directly affecting the people," Inam Un Nabi said.
He expressed hope that the remaining installments, along with additional funds for pending and left-out schemes, would be released at the earliest to ensure that every deserving household in Jammu and Kashmir benefits under the Jal Jeevan Mission. (KNS)

Delay in AEE Appointment Triggers Wage Payment Concerns in Mawer
Raja Akbar
Kupwara, July 6 (KNS) : Hundreds of workers engaged under the MGNREGA and Viksit Bharat schemes in Rural Development Block Mawer, Qalamabad, have expressed concern over delays in wage payments, alleging that the absence of an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) has led to the deletion of attendance records and placed wages worth lakhs of rupees at risk.
The workers said the previous AEE was transferred nearly a week ago, but no replacement has been posted so far. They alleged that several muster rolls are pending approval, preventing the completion of the verification process required for wage payments.
According to the workers, attendance records covering around 15 days of work have already been deleted from the online system due to non approval within the stipulated period. They fear that several more muster rolls may also be deleted if the issue is not addressed immediately.
The labourers explained that under the MGNREGA and Viksit Bharat schemes, every muster roll has to pass through multiple stages before wages can be released.
After technical verification by the Junior Engineer, the records require approval from the Assistant Executive Engineer, Panchayat Secretary, MIS Operator and finally the Block Development Officer before the Fund Transfer Order (FTO) is generated.
The workers alleged that the absence of an AEE has stalled this process, resulting in delays and uncertainty over their earnings. They said many families depend on these wages for their daily livelihood and urged the administration to intervene without delay.
The affected workers have appealed to the authorities to immediately post an Assistant Executive Engineer in Mawer Block and take steps to restore or process the pending muster rolls so that labourers receive their rightful wages.
Meanwhile, the concerned Block Development Officer said the matter would be taken up with higher authorities for immediate redressal. (KNS)
