The investigation into the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) controversy has expanded, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan seeking a detailed report on the issue. The minister is also reviewing the contract awarded for the digital evaluation process as concerns surrounding the implementation of the new marking system come under greater scrutiny.
The controversy erupted after several Class 12 students alleged discrepancies in their evaluated answer sheets following CBSE's first-time adoption of the On-Screen Marking system. Complaints ranged from missing scanned pages and answer-sheet mismatches to alleged marking errors, triggering a nationwide debate over the transparency and reliability of the digital evaluation process.
While CBSE has defended the system and said corrective measures are being taken where required, the Ministry of Education is examining both the technical implementation and the processes followed during the evaluation. The episode has put CBSE's digital assessment framework under the spotlight and raised broader questions about accountability, quality control and student grievance redressal in board examinations.
