Naman Parikh, founder of Divyangdost Foundation was one of the finalists selected from all over India to present a pitch about the vision of our organization at the Student Startup Innovation Policy International Meet at EDII in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in June this year.
The platform provided Divyangdost Foundation a stage to be recognized as an organization with an innovative concept to address a pressing concern in the world of differently abled individuals i.e. Divyangs.
Our idea got a very positive response from the dignitaries who were present at the event and we received some exceptional feedback to improve and further our cause.

The most revolutionary technology in the world for visually impaired right now is this. eSight electronic glasses actually help legally blind people see everything.

The technology works like normal glasses and can restore sight. This is indeed a breakthrough that’s inaccessible to so many visually impaired individuals because of the 10,000$ price tag on it.

This is because such technology access is never covered in health insurance. Maybe a change in policies for Divyangs and cheaper technology can make no visual impairment a reality.

Utensil stabilizing handles for people who have uncontrolled hand tremors are made by companies like Liftware. Such devices ensure that people who are suffering from conditions such as cerebral palsy can handle daily tasks like lifting a spoon and eating their own meals independently.

Such technologies ensure that despite movement disability Divyangs do not face any challenge in performing daily activities. However, currently such technologies are not available to individuals across the globe and especially in developing countries.

For epileptic patients the most common injury causing phenomenon is a seizure. For children this can become worse. Students at Rice University in Texas developed Seizure Monitoring and Response Transducer (SMART) belt to detect any changes in skin conductivity and breathing to send a message to guardians or family when the person is about to have a seizure, thus helping them take necessary precautions.
This is especially useful for kids having seizures so that their parents can take immediate necessary action, thus avoiding the risk of injury for the child.
There are several such innovations happening in schools and universities across the world for disability assistive devices.
Divyangdost Foundation aims to become the centralized system where all of these technologies are accessible to all Divyangs.

Walking sticks with obstacle detectors are common, but companies like Kapten have taken it a step further.
There are GPS navigation units like Kapten Plus available to help visually impaired individuals navigate on their own around their local neighborhoods.
The units have other built in facilities like radio, speaker, recorder etc.

However, like a lot of other high end technology available today, such devices cost almost 300$, making them completely unaffordable for individuals in developing countries or those forming the middle class of such countries.
