On March 13, 2026, the government introduced Bill No. 79 of 2026 — an amendment that could erase thousands of transgender people from legal existence in India.

It removes our right to self-identify. It hands that power to a medical board. It narrows who counts as transgender so severely that trans men, trans women outside hijra and kinner communities, and non-binary people may no longer be legally recognised.
This is not protection. This is erasure.

Trans and q***r organisations across India are demanding full withdrawal of this bill. We stand with that demand.
